Theater Department is a 4-year program in which practice and theory are studied together. Our belief that university education is not only vocational education but also a process in which the living and producing methods of people who will live together in a sustainable world are revived and researched has determined our education style.
The first semester of our education consists of basic acting and movement lessons, and the courses of the Core Program create a common culture unique to Kadir Has University. Our students complete their primary acting education by taking intensive acting, voice, body, and theory lessons during the following five semesters. The Linklater technique is used as the primary method in sound studies. While the acting is based on the Stanislavski method and organic drama, Meisner and Michael Chekhov’s techniques are studied to support this. The fourth grade is the period of preparation for the project, individual production, and professional life. Students work with professional artists to produce independent works and take part in group projects in this process.
Our department adopts the principle that a theatre is a form of collective production. Therefore, our students are encouraged to work on all the department productions and contribute to the creative processes of the projects starting from the preparatory class.
